# Peptides for gut health: BPC-157 and KPV, what the research shows and what is prescribed

Updated October 30, 2026 · Research summarized, no efficacy claims

## The short answer

The two peptides most discussed for gut health are BPC-157 and KPV. BPC-157 was first described as a fragment of a protein found in gastric juice and has been studied in preclinical research for gut-lining and gastrointestinal repair pathways; KPV has been studied in animal and cell research for inflammatory pathways in the intestine. Human evidence for both is limited. At Peptides.build you can be prescribed single-ingredient BPC-157 ($163 month to month) or KLOW, an injectable blend that includes KPV ($225 month to month).

BPC-157

## What has BPC-157 been studied for in the gut?

BPC-157 is a 15-amino-acid peptide. Its name, Body Protection Compound, comes from the larger protective protein in gastric juice it was first linked to. Most published work comes from one research group and was done in rats: it has been studied in preclinical research for stomach-lining injury, ulcer and fistula models, and for blood-vessel signaling around damaged tissue. Reviews of that work are listed in the sources below.

What that does not show: that BPC-157 treats any digestive condition in people. Human trials are small and early. Single-ingredient BPC-157 is covered by the HHS policy, so a licensed 503A pharmacy can compound it against a prescription. See [is BPC-157 legal](https://peptides.build/legal/bpc-157/) and [BPC-157 price](https://peptides.build/pricing/bpc-157/).

KPV

## What is KPV, and why is it only in KLOW here?

KPV is three amino acids (lysine, proline, valine) from the tail of alpha-MSH. It has been studied in animal and cell research for inflammatory pathways in the intestine, including uptake through the PepT1 transporter in mouse colitis models. There is no completed large human trial.

The HHS policy covers KPV acetate only by mouth or on the skin, and only on its own. KPV alone is not offered here. At Peptides.build KPV is one of four compounds in [KLOW](https://peptides.build/protocols/klow-stack/), an injectable blend. As a blend, KLOW is outside the HHS policy, and it is still prescribed by a licensed provider after an intake. Compare it in [KLOW vs GLOW](https://peptides.build/compare/klow-vs-glow/) or read [is KPV legal](https://peptides.build/legal/kpv/).

How it works

## How do you get a gut-health peptide prescribed?

1. **Five-minute intake**: history, current medications and goals.
2. **Provider review**: a licensed US provider decides whether BPC-157 or KLOW is appropriate, or neither.
3. **Pharmacy**: a licensed US 503A pharmacy compounds it and ships it already reconstituted and labeled.
4. **Delivered cold**: 2 to 3 business days in transit, adult signature. No membership fee.

A diagnosed digestive condition needs your own doctor. A peptide is not a substitute for that care.

Common questions

## FAQ

### What is the best peptide for gut health?

No peptide is proven to treat a gut condition in people. BPC-157 has the largest preclinical literature on gastrointestinal repair pathways, and KPV has animal and cell research on intestinal inflammation. Which one, if any, is appropriate is a decision for a licensed provider who knows your history.

### Is BPC-157 good for gut health?

BPC-157 has been studied in preclinical research, mostly in rats, for gut-lining, ulcer and fistula repair pathways. Controlled human research is only beginning, so benefits in people are not established.

### What is the peptide that is studied for the gut lining?

BPC-157 is the one most often named. It was first described as a fragment of a protective protein in gastric juice, and most of its early research looked at the stomach and intestine.

### Are peptides good for your gut?

Some peptides have been studied for gut pathways, mostly in animals. That is not the same as being shown to help people. Compounded peptides are not FDA-approved, and a provider should weigh the risks for you.

### Can I get KPV on its own here?

No. KPV alone is not offered here. The HHS policy of October 28, 2026 covers KPV acetate only by mouth or on the skin. At Peptides.build KPV is part of KLOW, an injectable four-compound blend that is outside the HHS policy and still prescribed by a licensed provider after an intake: $225 month to month.

### Is BPC-157 legal to get with a prescription?

Single-ingredient BPC-157 acetate is one of the six peptides HHS now lets licensed 503A pharmacies compound for patients with a prescription. Compounded BPC-157 is still not FDA-approved.

### What is the downside of taking peptides?

Most of the research is preclinical, so benefits and long-term safety in people are not established. Most gut-focused protocols here are injections. Several peptides are prohibited in drug-tested sport. Products sold online as research use only carry no prescription and no pharmacy label.

### How much do peptides for gut health cost?

At Peptides.build, BPC-157 is $163 month to month or $158/mo on 6 months; KLOW is $225 month to month or $183/mo on 6 months. The price includes the provider review, compounding by a licensed 503A pharmacy and cold-chain shipping.

Prescribed, not mixed at home

## Tired of reconstituting?

A licensed US provider reviews a short online intake. If a prescription is appropriate, a licensed US 503A pharmacy fills it and ships it cold-chain, already reconstituted and labeled with the concentration.
